St. Charles Sister Cities About
The St. Charles Sister Cities Program
Founded in 1994, the St. Charles Sister Cities Program is dedicated to building lasting connections and friendships across the globe. Through cultural, social, business, and educational exchanges, we bring people together to foster understanding, goodwill, and shared experiences between St. Charles and our Sister Cities.
Our program also hosts engaging events and community gatherings, offering opportunities for residents to connect, celebrate different cultures, and participate in meaningful local and international exchanges.
Sister Cities International
On September 11, 1956, President Eisenhower brought Americans representing all walks of life to Washington D.C. to attend a White House Conference on Citizen Diplomacy. This conference formed the capstone of the People-To-People program, which later evolved into Sister Cities International. St. Charles Sister Cities was incorporated 40 years later, in 1996.

Exchange Programs
As part of the St. Charles Sister Cities Program, the Education Exchange Program gives students immersive global experiences that build cultural understanding, confidence, and lifelong friendships. Since 1994, students from St. Charles have traveled to sister cities like Ludwigsburg, Germany, and Inishowen, Ireland, attending school, living with host families, and experiencing daily life abroad.
